David Hansel, 19, studying an Extended Diploma in Graphic Design and Interactive Media. I'm really enjoying my course at the moment and really want to progress my skills at university in graphic design. I've been interested in graphic design since I was young and did it for GCSE and now at college, I love all aspects of graphic design but my main interests are in creating my own images and expanding on them; using using Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign and my own photography. The 12 pieces of work I have submitted show the skills I have learnt during my two years at Burton and South Derbyshire College.
The first piece of work is a sketch I did to create a front cover for my portfolio. I drew it out by hand then using a graphics tablet drew vectors in Illustrator.
The second two pieces are part of a minimalist poster project and the strongest two are included - minimal as possible but still effective and clear which movies they're for.
The next project I have presented was part of a project where we had to create our own airline company called 'MidAir'. This sequence shows development of the logo for the company, a page of brand guidelines and two advertising posters.
The I-D Fusion cover issue was a photography project where we were asked to create an issue of the magazine. This is the front cover of the magazine with my photography edited using Photoshop.
A print design assignment completed last term involved creating brand new book jackets for 3 different books. Here are two of the book jackets I designed; firstly hand drawn and then art-worked using illustrator.
'Goblin' is an album cover I designed for a musician. The cover is my own work and is just the start of the project.
The last image is a small sketch I did for my zodiac sign, again hand drawn then art-worked with a graphics tablet and Photoshop.
I hope the work I have submitted demonstrates potential and the enthusiasm I have for design.
